Diane G explained this feature. In brief - many users of e-communication are familiar with the “push / pull” phenomenon ~ do you want to pull e-communication into your world or have news and updates automatically pushed down to you? By “subscribing”, you can receive automated alerts whenever something is added to our site. Click here for the flyer describing this.

Postscripts

Jutta and the "Shift Happens" video mentioned the "$100 Laptop Project". Read more here... and a postscript... Jamie McKenzie maintains one of my favourite websites ~   His most recent newsletter features an article ~ "What's wrong with a Cheap Computer?... When you read about the $100 laptop being developed at MIT for third world students, it sounds attractive. It does just about everything students need - word processing, Internet browsing, spreadsheets, etc. So why limit access to poor kids?..." [read more]

P.P.S. In the Jutta Q&A there was some mention of the work of tech support folks. Thought you may also want to read Karl Fisch's | Fischbowl reflections on this. See May 16 blog entry ~ excerpt ~ "remind myself to do a better job of teaching my staff and students how to fish. I think this not only makes sense in a general way, but is especially important if we want teachers and students to be "technically literate" in the 21st century. If technology is going to play as big a role as I'm telling everyone it will, then everyone is going to need to be comfortable with using it seamlessly. And that includes learning the problem-solving skills that I've learned along the way - skills that they'll then be able to apply as new technologies - and new problems - arise."
