English > SEA Laptop Take Home Policies

Waterloo Catholic District School Board is contemplating changing their policy around SEA Laptop Take Home rights. I would like to hear from other boards to see what their policy around SEA Laptops are. If your board allows SEA Laptops to go home, if you could let me know any issues/concerns you have had i.e. damage/lost equipment and how you have handled that.

Hi Chris,
Our board has just changed their policy around SEA laptops going home. As of yet we have not run into any snags because this is all new to us. I have included part of our form that is signed by parent/student and school principal.

Signature ensures an agreement upon the following terms:

-I recognize that the specialized equipment that is loaned (lent??) to me is the Board's property and not mine.
-I agree to use it for the purposes written in section D.
-I agree to have the equipment with me every day.
-If the borrowed equipment is damaged, lost or stolen, I will immediately notify the principal of the school and the Director of Special Education.
-I am responsible to provide a police report to the principal of the school if the laptop is stolen.
-I am fully aware of the fact that I am solely and personally responsible for the total cost of the equipment (including GST and PST) or for the cost of the repairs for the equipment or pieces of equipment that are not covered with the warranty should I be found to have been negligent.
-I am not permitted, under any circumstance, to modify, add or remove any software applications from the computer that has been loaned to me.

Can't wait to hear what others have in place.

I think the students should be able to carry their laptops home,i say this because children mostly do homework on weekdays because in Secondary school we get alot of homework so we need the laptops to do research and complete our homework by due date...
